How to roll back Windows 10 updates even if ten days have passed

The operating system version can be rolled back only within the next ten days after the upgrade. But what if the time has passed? In this case, you need to use other tricks to revert to a previous version of Windows 10. You can revert to a previous version of the operating system even if ten days have passed.

However, there is no direct way to roll back Windows updates after ten days. Therefore, you need to manually change a few settings to do this.

Every time your computer installs a new update, the older version files are saved in the Windows.old folder. Microsoft keeps this folder for 10 days, allowing you to revert to a previous version.

However, after the ten-day period, the system automatically deletes the files stored in the Windows.old folder. Microsoft does this to free up space on your device. This means that after ten days, you will not be able to revert to a previous version of Windows.

Steps to rollback to a previous version in Windows 10 after 10 days

Since Microsoft stores the previous version files in the Windows.old folder and keeps them for 10 days, the trick here is to rename this folder.

After upgrading to a newer version, you need to rename the Windows.old folder to something else if you want to keep it. Follow a few simple steps below to rename the Windows.old folder.

Step 1.  First of all, open File Explorer on your Windows 10 computer.

Step 2.  Now click the “View” button as shown in the screenshot.

Step 3.  Then click “Options” to open the “Folder Options”.

Step 4.  Select the “View” tab and enable the “Show hidden files, folders and drives” option. Also uncheck the “Hide protected system files” option.

Step 5.  Now on the C: drive, find the “Windows.old” folder. You need to rename this folder to something else like Windowsold.old.

Now when you want to revert to the previous version, go to the C: drive and rename the folder to Windows.old. Then click on the Start menu, go to Settings> Update & Security> Recovery, and under Revert to a previous version of Windows 10, click the Back button to roll back the updates.
